Hosts of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco, along with Zambia, booked their place in the quarter-finals following 1-0 wins over Senegal and DR Congo respectively on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
A draw would have been enough to see them through but were not ready to take anything to chance.
Yasmin Katie Mrabet scored the crucial goal for the Moroccans from the penalty spot in added time in the first half while Bay FC star Racheal Kundananji scored for the Zambians in the ninth minute, making it her third goal in the tournament in as many games.
The Congolese finished with 10 women after Falonne Pambani was given a straight red card in the 69th minute.
The Atlas Lionesses finished top of Group A with seven points, same as the Copper Queens but with a superior goal difference.
