Ghizlane Chebbak found the back of the net three times as 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) hosts Morocco recorded their first win of the tournament – a 4-2 victory over DR Congo in Rabat on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.
The Atlas Lionesses drew 2-2 with Zambia in their opening Group A game last Saturday and were behind after six minutes when Merveille Kanjinga scored for the Congolese.
The Moroccans found their way back with Chebbak netting in the 25th and 43rd minute. The scores remained in the North African giants’ favour until the 70th minute when Flavine Mawete equalised for DR Congo.
Morocco were, however, not done yet as all-time leading scorer Chebbak netted five minutes later to complete her hat-trick before Yasmin Katie Mrabet put the final nail in the coffin in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot.

The victory sees the WAFCON 2022 runners-up level on four points in Group A with Zambia, who got the better of Senegal in a 3-2 win in Mohammedia earlier in the day.
