Van Bronckhorst appointed as new Liverpool assistant coach

Former Netherlands international Giovanni van Bronckhorst has joined Liverpool as assistant coach to manager Arne Slot, Afrosport reports.

The 50-year-old, who played for Arsenal and Barcelona during his illustrious career, won two Dutch Cups and the Scottish Cup as head coach of Feyenoord and Rangers, respectively.

His most recent role was as coach of Turkish giants Besiktas, where he lifted the Turkish Super Cup in 2024.

“Liverpool FC can confirm a number of new appointments and departures within Arne Slot’s coaching staff ahead of 2025-26m”, read a club statement.

“Former Netherlands international and captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins the Premier League champions in the position of assistant coach, subject to receiving a visa.”


Slot has made changes to his backroom staff after winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Anfield, with former Netherlands defender John Heitinga also joining as a member of his backroom staff.

Liverpool also confirmed the arrival of Xavi Valero for his second spell at the Anfield, and will take over the role of head of first team goalkeeper coaching, with goalkeeper coaches Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel departing the club.
