UEL: French police arrest 101 Roma fans ahead of OGC Nice clash

French police arrested 101 AS Roma fans in the city of Nice on Tuesday ahead of the Italian team’s UEFA Europa League clash with OGC Nice on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

According to reports, Giallorossi supporters were seen carrying weapons like sticks, shovels and knuckle dusters around the Nice city centre, which drew the attention of local police and ultimately led to the arrests.

Initially, 102 arrests were made, but this was revised to 101, with all the concerned persons being held under police custody.

“Since yesterday, more than 200 personnel, including two mobile units, were deployed in the city centre of Nice to prevent all types of public disorder and proceeded with the arrest of 102 individuals identified as Roma ultras, carrying weapons,” the police said in a statement.

“These individuals were taken into police custody.”

More than 400 police officers will be present for Wednesday’s game at the Allianz Riviera, with local authorities banning items that show their allegiance to the club between Tuesday and Thursday.
