Real Madrid will face familiar foes Manchester City once again in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League following Friday’s draw in Nyon, Switzerland, Afrosport reports.
Los Blancos made it through after Wednesday’s 3-1 aggregate win over Benfica in the knockout playoffs while the Citizens finished in the top eight for an automatic berth.
It will be a repeat of the league phase meeting which City won 2-1 at the Bernabeu while it will be the 13th and 14th meeting between both teams under Pep Guardiola.
Another league phase reunion will see Newcastle United take on Barcelona in the last 16. The Magpies saw off Azerbaijan giants Qarabag 9-3 on aggregate in the knockout playoffs, and were on the receiving end of a 2-1 loss in their league phase meeting with Barcelona at St. James’ Park.
Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid will battle Tottenham Hotspur while reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain lock horns with Chelsea in a rematch of last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final.
Arsenal face German side Bayer Leverkusen while Bodo/Glimt will continue their fairytale run against Sporting Lisbon. Turkish giants Galatasaray will face Liverpool again and Bayern Munich play Atalanta.
