UCL: Osimhen scores as Galatasaray edge out Juventus after extra time

Victor Osimhen was on target as Galatasaray came from three goals down to defeat Italian giants Juventus 7-5 on aggregate despite a 3-2 extra time loss in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian superstar provided two assists in the first leg in Istanbul as Gala won 5-2.

The Turkish side were however pegged back in the return leg as Juventus leveled the tie 5-5 on aggregate through goals from Manuel Locatelli, Federico Gatti and Weston McKennie.

This happened despite Juve being reduced to 10 men after Lloyd Kelly was given a straight red card at the start of the second half.

Extra time was next and Galatasaray finally game alive as Osimhen put them ahead 6-5 on aggregate via a Baris Yilmaz assist before the latter added the second goal.

It was Osimhen’s 13th European goal for Galatasaray, making him the highest scoring foreigner in the history of the Turkish club on the continent.


In other Wednesday results, Vinicius Jr. was on the score sheet again after the racism allegation against suspended Gianluca Prestianni as Real Madrid defeated Benfica 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu and 3-1 on aggregate.

Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain drew 2-2 with 10-man AS Monaco to win 5-4 on aggregate while Atalanta thumped Borussia Dortmund 4-1 and 4-3 on aggregate, with Algeria left-back Ramy Bansebaini getting a second yellow card in added time while Nico Schlotterback and Giorgio Scalvini were handed straight red cards on the bench.
