UCL: Osimhen brace lifts Galatasaray past Bodo/Glimt in Istanbul

Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray continued their strong form with an impressive 3–1 win over Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday in Istanbul, Afrosport reports.

Osimhen was the star of the show, bagging a first-half brace to lead the Turkish giants to a crucial home victory that keeps their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages firmly alive. The 26-year-old scored in his seventh straight outing in Europe for Galatasaray.

The hosts made a flying start at Rams Park, immediately taking control of possession and pressing high up the pitch. Their early pressure paid off within minutes when Osimhen finished off a pass from Mario Lemina, firing a low shot beyond Nikita Haikin to open the scoring in the third minute.

Galatasaray continued to push forward with intensity, and their dominance was rewarded just after the half-hour mark when Osimhen grabbed his second of the evening. The Super Eagles striker reacted quickest inside the box, slotting home from close range to double Galatasaray’s advantage in the 33rd minute.

Bodo/Glimt, to their credit, tried to respond and began to grow into the game as half-time approached. However, Galatasaray’s defence held firm to preserve their 2–0 lead at the break.

The second half began at a slower tempo, but Galatasaray soon reasserted their control. In the 60th minute, Yunus Akgun made it 3–0 with a brilliant left-footed strike into the bottom corner after a neat exchange with Roland Sallai.

The goal effectively sealed the win for the home side, though the visitors did manage a late consolation through Andreas Helmersen, whose header found the net in the 75th minute. Despite a brief spell of pressure from the visitors, Galatasaray’s composure ensured the scoreline remained 3–1 at the final whistle.

Osimhen’s brace took his tally in the Champions League to three goals in two games and five in all competitions this season. The victory lifts Galatasaray to 11th in the league phase, with Okan Buruk’s side claiming their second consecutive win after an opening day thumping at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bodo/Glimt, meanwhile, struggled to cope with Galatasaray’s tempo and suffered their first defeat in the competition this season. The Norwegian side dropped into 26th, leaving them with plenty of work to do if they are to stay in contention for the knockout rounds.
