UCL: Maresca sees no reason to panic ahead of Chelsea-Mourinho reunion

UCL: Real Madrid boss focused on Kairat clash after derby loss

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca does not see any reason to panic about his side’s recent drop in form as they prepare to welcome former coach Jose Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge against Benfica on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.

The Blues started the season unbeaten in their first four league games but have lost three of their last four matches in all competitions, including back-to-back league defeats against Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion, which saw them finish with 10 men.

Chelsea also lost their opening Champions League game 3-1 away at Bayern Munich and will face another tough task against a Benfica side that Mourinho recently took charge of after replacing Bruno Lage following their opening home defeat to Qarabag of Azerbaijan.

“For me personally, there is not any reason that we need to create panic, knowing that football, you know better than me, football is a crazy world,” Maresca said.

“If you lost five games in six months and you need to say things to defend yourself, that means that it’s a crazy world.

“I don’t think we need to defend ourselves in this moment because the reality is that I have a very good feeling with the squad we have.”

Maresca will be sweating over the fitness of Moises Caicedo, Andrey Santos and Joao Pedro ahead of the Benfica game after they all picked up knocks in the defeat to Brighton.
