Chelsea and Liverpool were among the biggest winners in UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday after recording 5-1 victories over Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively in the league phase, Afrosport reports.
Ajax were down to 10 men after 15 minutes following Kenneth Taylor’s rash challenge on Facundo Bounanotte. This allowed Chelsea to gain momentum with Marc Guiu opening the scoring three minutes later before Josip Saluto scored an own goal.
Ajax pulled more back through Wout Weghorst from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute but Chelsea responded with penalties converted by Enzo Fernandez and Estevao for a 4-1 first half lead.
Substitute Tyrique George scored Chelsea’s fifth and final goal three minutes into the second half.

Meanwhile at Deutsche Bank Park, Rasmus Kristensen put Frankfurt ahead after 26 minutes before Liverpool hit back with goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to lead 3-1 at the break.
The Reds added two more goals in the second half through Cody Gakpo and Donnik Szoboszlai. Florian Wirtz provided two of the assists to register his first goal involvement since his £116 million summer move from Bayer Leverkusen.

In other results, goals from Lennart Karl, Harry Kane, Luis Diaz and Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson handed Bayern Munich a 4-0 win over Club Brugge while Jude Bellingham’s first goal of the season gave Real Madrid a narrow 1-0 win over Juventus.
Sporting Lisbon defeated 10-man Olympique Marseille 2-1 while Atalanta and Slavia Prague played a goalless draw, likewise AS Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur.
