UCL: Bosschaart confident Feyenoord can progress despite Quinten Timber season-ending injury

Feyenoord manager Pascal Bosschaart is confident his team can progress into the UEFA Champions League knockout phase despite the season-ending injury to captain Quinten Timber, Afrosport reports.

Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal fullback Jurrien, hurt his knee following a fall in Feyenoord’s 1-0 win over AC Milan in the first leg of the knockout playoffs in Rotterdam last week and has now undergone knee surgery for a ligament injury which will rule him out for the campaign.

Despite the narrow lead, Bosschaart says his team is well prepared for the big test at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

“We all sympathise with Timber, it’s a shock for everyone,” he said.

“But we are here with a good team. The same formation as last week but without Timber but with Calvin Stengs. We are happy that Stengs is back in the selection, he is good for half an hour.

“We are 1-0 ahead, we are in a good position to reach the next round. AC Milan will definitely do something different than in Rotterdam, we also have to make plans for that, but we have prepared well. Hopefully, our plan will come to fruition.”

Quinten Timber has joined the lengthy injury list for Feyenoord with eight players ruled out for the trip to Milan.
