UCL: Barcelona confirm Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys as venue for PSG clash

Barcelona have confirmed that they will play their upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on October 1 at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic, Afrosport reports.

The club’s long-awaited return to Camp Nou remains on hold due to ongoing delays in the stadium’s €1.5 billion renovation project, which began in June 2023. As a result, Barcelona have continued to play their home fixtures away from their iconic ground.

Over the past two seasons, the reigning La Liga champions have been using the 55,000-capacity Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, located a short distance from Camp Nou, as their temporary home.

“FC Barcelona announces that the second match of the Champions League group stage, on Wednesday, October 1, at 9:00 p.m., against Paris Saint-Germain, will be played at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium,” read a statement on the club website.

“The Club continues to work intensively to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Spotify Camp Nou in the coming months.

“FC Barcelona would like to thank its members and fans for their understanding and support throughout such a complex and exciting process as the return to the new Spotify Camp Nou.”

Barcelona also confirmed on Tuesday that this Sunday’s La Liga fixture against Getafe will be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, a 6,000-seat venue typically used by the club’s women’s and reserve teams. The stadium recently hosted their first home game which ended in a 6-0 win over Valencia last week.

The delays mean fans will have to wait longer for a return to Camp Nou, as reconstruction work continues on both the stadium and the surrounding Espai Barca development.
