Atletico Madrid manager Diego Someone says he is looking to inflict damage on Arsenal in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium, Afrosport reports.
The Gunners have started with victories against Athletic Bilbao and Olympiacos while Atleti first lost 3-2 at Liverpool before an emphatic 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Simeone, speaking ahead of the game, acknowledged Arsenal’s solid form under Mikel Arteta from last season when they reached the Champions League semi-finals, beating Atleti’s fierce rivals and record champions Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
The Argentine tactician however insisted his own team have their own path which includes getting a victory in North London.
“During the last seasons they’ve stayed until the late stages [of the Champions League] and they deserved more than what they got. But they proved and showed the capacity and the organisation of the team,” he said.
“We must take the game where we think we can inflict damage on them, playing at a wonderful stadium with fans who will cheer for their team as we know happens in English football, and surely with a high rhythm in the game.”
Simeone added: “We also have our own path and we know very well what we want. We know how to play. We’ve evolved according to the characteristics of our players.
“Evidently, we want to play a great game, to get a much-needed victory away from home in Champions League, and face it all with the intensity required for a game such as this.”
