Tottenham sign Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich

Tottenham have completed the signing of French forward Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich, Afrosport reports.

Tel joins Spurs until the end of the season with the deal including £45 million, which, if activated at the end of the season, will see the 19-year-old sign a six-year deal with the north London club.

The former Rennes man, who initially had rejected the option of moving to Spurs three days ago, becomes Ange Postecoglou’s third signing in the January transfer window after goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and defender Kevin Danso from Lens.

Tel moved to Bayern in 2022 and has since scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in over 80 games for the club. The youngster, however, desires more game time, prompting his request for a move away from the Bundesliga leaders.

He helped the Bavarians claim the Bundesliga title in his first season and, on the international stage, has represented France from Under-17 to Under-21 level and captained his country to the 2022 UEFA European Under-17 Championship title.

Spurs are currently plagued with injuries, as forwards Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson are currently sidelined for the next few weeks.

It is left to see if he will play a part in Thursday’s crucial visit to Anfield, where Tottenham will take on Liverpool in the League Cup semi-final second leg, with Spurs holding a 1-0 advantage in the tie.

The north London club is struggling in the Premier League as they sit 14th on 27 points.
