Togo international Samuel Asamoah has suffered a serious neck injury after a shocking collision with a pitch-side advertising board during a league match in China, Afrosport reports.
The 31-year-old Guangxi Pingguo midfielder was pushed by an opponent and crashed head-first into an LED panel during Sunday’s league clash.
His club confirmed that Asamoah sustained multiple neck fractures and severe nerve damage, leaving him at risk of high-level paraplegia.
Asamoah has since undergone surgery and is reported to be in a stable condition.
“His recovery progress will be announced in due course after follow-up examinations,” the club said in a statement.
The opposing player, Zhang Zhixiong of Chongqing Tonglianglong, received a yellow card for the push.
Asamoah, who previously played in Belgium and Romania before moving to China in 2024, has six caps for the Togo national team.
