Son set for record LAFC move after Tottenham departure

Son Heung-min is set to join Major League Soccer (MLS) Los Angeles FC after announcing his departure from Tottenham over the weekend, Afrosport reports.

The South Korean forward announced his depature from the club on Saturday, with his final game against Newcastle United in a pre-season match in Seoul on Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

According to BBC Sport, LAFC will pay around £20 million for Son, making him one of the most expensive purchases by an MLS club.

The most expensive purchase is currently £22.5 million paid by Atlanta United to Middlesbrough for Ivory Coast striker Emmanuel Latte Lath back in February.

Son joined Tottenham in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, and scored 173 goals, providing 101 assists in 454 competitive appearances. 127 of the goals have come in the Premier League, making him one of the highest-scoring wingers in the history of the English top-flight.

The 33-year-old famously captained Spurs to the Europa League title in May, ending the North London club’s 17-year trophy drought.
