EFL Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have gone into administration following deepening financial struggles, Afrosport reports.
The Owls were previously charged by the English Football League (EFL) in June for multiple breaches of regulations after failing to pay the wages of players on time.
The Yorkshire outfit had already been placed under registration embargoes for the past two seasons after receiving a six-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules during the 2020-21 season.
Going into administration means Wednesday will automatically be docked 12 points which will take a further hit on their placing in the Championship table where they currently sit rock bottom with six points and just one win in 11 games having finished 12th last season.
Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri took over the club in 2015, and they came close to Premier League promotion at the end of the 2015-16 season but lost to Hull City in the Championship playoff final.
He has struggled to fund the club since the financial woes began and was unable to find a suitable buyer which forced the club to go into administration.
Julian Pitts, Kris Wigfield and Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor have been appointed joint administrators of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited and of Sheffield 3 Limited, the company that owns the club’s stadium, on 24 October 2025.

Some Wednesday fans have been boycotting games since the start of the season to protest against his ownership.
