Manchester United midfielder Sekou Kone is in a conscious and stable state in hospital after sustaining a head injury in the Under-21 side’s National League Cup tie at Tamworth on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.
The 19-year-old Mali youth international was involved in a clash of heads in an attempt to head the ball out from a corner kick after which he fell to the ground.
He initially stood up but was told by United medical staff to go back down for further assessment.
Referee Ross Martin blew the half-time whistle with Kone still being treated on the pitch before he was carried off on a stretcher. The game was goalless in the first half and ultimately abandoned.
United in a statement on X said: “Sekou Kone is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team. He has been taken to hospital as a precaution for further checks.”

Kone joined United from Guidars FC in his native Mali last year and is yet to make a competitive appearance for the first team.
He however made the Premier League matchday squad three times as an unused substitute in away games at Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Nottingham Forest.
