Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah was on the scoresheet on Saturday as Liverpool fell to a 3-2 defeat at Brentford in the Premier League, Afrosport reports.
The 33-year-old scored late in the game, ending his six-game goal drought, but the Premier League champions suffered their fourth straight defeat and fifth in six games across all competitions.
Brentford produced a superb all-round display and were in the lead inside five minutes thanks to a poacher’s finish from Dango Ouattara. Liverpool conceded yet another set-piece goal as the Burkina Faso forward poked home a flick from Kristoffer Ajer following a long throw from Michael Kayode.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 45th minute when Kevin Schade finished past Giorgi Mamardashvili after latching on to an amazing defence-splitting pass from Mikkel Damsgaard. Liverpool, however, pulled one back before the break, as Milos Kerkez met Conor Bradley’s cross at the back post to restore some hope.
The Bees increased the tempo after the restart and were awarded a penalty when Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have fouled Ouattara. Igor Thiago calmly converted from the spot for his sixth league goal of the season.
Late drama followed as a defensive lapse from the hosts gifted Liverpool a chance. Dominik Szoboszlai stole the ball from a sluggish Ajer before crossing it to Salah, whose right-footed effort found the top corner of the net for his third league goal of the season.

Despite Liverpool’s late push, Brentford held on for the victory, marking their second straight win and third in four games. Keith Andrew’s side put in another assured performance, moving into the top half of the table, with a League Cup trip to Grimsby Town next before next weekend’s league clash at Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, the defeat marked the first time Liverpool have lost four of their opening nine games of a Premier League season since the 1993-94 campaign.
The Reds, who are struggling to regain rhythm, dropped to sixth in the table, four points behind leaders Arsenal, who face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
