Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso dismisses Mbappe anxiety over winning UCL title

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso says Kylian Mbappe is not anxious to win the UEFA Champions League as Los Blancos prepare for the 2025-26 league phase, Afrosport reports.

The premier European club competition is the only prestigious that has eluded the French superstar in his prolific career having missed out with former club Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.

The Ligue 1 giants finally got their hands on the title last season after Mbappe, of Cameroonian heritage, joined Madrid in a blockbuster free transfer, but the Spanish side only managed to reach the quarter-finals, losing to Arsenal.

The 15-time European champions will be led by Alonso, who won the title as a player in 2014, and replaced Carlo Ancelotti, and will start their campaign with a home tie against Olympique Marseille on Tuesday.

When asked about Mbappe’s eagerness to have a winner’s medal, the Spaniard said: “I haven’t seen him anxious. I think we all know this project has just started and obviously one of the tasks when you play for Real Madrid is to win the Champions League.

“I hope we will win it sooner rather than later, and hopefully we are in the correct path to get there, and Kylian is part of it too, but I haven’t seen nervous about it.

“We spoke today about what it means to play Champions League, but we haven’t spoken about May we just talked about the closer matches.”

Mbappe has scored four goals in as many games for Real Madrid this season. He has registered 48 goals in 63 appearances since his arrival.
