Barcelona have been handed a huge boost ahead of their season opener at Mallorca, as both Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia have been registered in time for the game by La Liga.
Rashford secured a season-long loan move to the Spanish champions from Manchester United last month, while Garcia arrived in June from Espanyol in a €25 million move. The club also brought in highly rated youngster Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen as part of their summer business.
Barca had been sweating over registration issues due to La Liga’s strict Financial Fair Play rules, with several players, including new signings at risk of missing out. Fortunately, they were thrown a lifeline thanks to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who eventually allowed his medical report to be submitted to the league body.
La Liga have now classified the German keeper as a long-term absentee, enabling the club to wipe around 80% of his wages off the books — freeing up space to register other players.
Both Rashford and Garcia now feature on La Liga’s official website and have been named in Hansi Flick’s 23-man squad to face Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix on Saturday.

However, not everything’s sorted just yet. Gerard Martin and Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny are still missing from the league’s squad listings, suggesting the Catalan giants are still wrestling with FFP hurdles heading into the new campaign.
Barcelona will also begin their title defence without Robert Lewandowski, who is battling with a muscle injury, while Ter Stegen will reportedly be sidelined for four months.
