Bruno Fernandes struck his 100th Manchester United goal as Ruben Amorim’s men battled past Chelsea 2-1 in torrential rain at Old Trafford on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The drama-filled contest saw both sides finish with 10 men. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was dismissed inside five minutes for a reckless challenge on Bryan Mbeumo, while Casemiro received his marching orders for a second yellow card just before half-time.
United took advantage of the early red card, with Fernandes breaking the deadlock in the 14th minute. The skipper latched onto Patrick Dorgu’s knockdown to slot home, becoming only the fifth United player to score on his 200th Premier League appearance – joining club greats Denis Irwin, Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia.
The Red Devils were on the front foot for much of the half and were rewarded with a second in the 37th minute through the head of Casemiro, who nodded home from close-range.
Chelsea rallied after the break and thought they had pulled one back through Wesley Fofana, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside. They eventually halved the deficit late on when Trevoh Chalobah nodded in from a Reece James delivery, setting up a tense finish.

United, however, held firm to seal their second league victory of the season, bouncing back from last week’s Manchester derby defeat. The result also marked Amorim’s first back-to-back league wins at Old Trafford since taking charge last November.
The result temporarily eases the pressure off the Portuguese coach, with a trip to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford next on Saturday.
For Chelsea, it was a second defeat in four days following their Champions League loss to Bayern Munich. Enzo Maresca’s side now turn their attention to the League Cup, with a third-round tie at Lincoln City on Tuesday.
