PL: El Khannouss scores winner as Leicester sink Tottenham to end winless run

Moroccan midfielder Bilal El Khannouss was the hero on Sunday as Leicester City secured a 2-1 comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur, Afrosport reports.

El Khannouss scored the winner with his second league goal of the season to end Leicester’s eight-game winless run, which included seven straight defeats.

Spurs, who were missing a number of first-team players due to injury, looked the more threatening side from the blast of the whistle, with Pedro Porro and Son Heung-Min coming close to opening the scoring for the hosts.

Ange Postecoglou’s men, however, found the back of the net in the 33rd minute through the head of Brazilian forward Richarlison, who was making his first league start of the season. The 27-year-old met a brilliant cross from Porro at the far post, heading it past Jakub Stolarczyk from close range.

The Foxes were on the hunt for the leveller before the end of the first half, but they failed to take any of the three chances that fell their way.

They, however, took that momentum into the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser in the opening minute through veteran forward Jamie Vardy. The 38-year-old latched onto a low cross from Bobby De Cordova-Reid before striking the ball into an empty net within just 58 seconds of the restart.

The Foxes completed the turnaround four minutes later as De Cordorva-Reid found El Khannouss, who had time and space, before curling his effort past Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Tottenham looked to fight back, but Porro’s freekick effort from about 30 yards out ricocheted off the crossbar, and Leicester held on for the win, their first in the Premier League since 3 December against West Ham.

The result means Spurs are now without a win in their last seven league matches, having lost six times, and they sit 15th in the standings with 24 points.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester, meanwhile, moved out of the relegation zone and is 17th with 17 points.
