Olmo sidelined as Barcelona welcome key returns before Girona test

Dani Olmo: Court refuses Barcelona’s appeal to register Spanish midfielder

Barcelona forward Dani Olmo is a major doubt for this month’s El Clasico against Real Madrid after suffering a calf injury that is expected to sideline him for up to three weeks, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old pulled out of Spain’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria. He returned to Barcelona for tests, which confirmed a muscle problem in his left calf.

The club confirmed there was no serious damage but said his “recovery will depend on how the injury evolves”.

This means Olmo will miss Saturday’s La Liga match against Girona and next week’s Champions League clash with Olympiacos. He is also racing against time to feature in the El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu on 26 October.

Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a €65 million deal last summer, scoring 12 goals in 39 appearances in his debut campaign. However, his form has dipped this season, with just one goal and two assists in 10 games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Barcelona received some encouraging news as Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez returned to full training on Monday. Yamal missed the defeat to Sevilla with a groin problem, while Lopez has been out for weeks with a similar issue.

Ferran Torres, who also withdrew from Spain’s squad with a minor hamstring soreness, is also expected to be ready to face Girona after Barcelona confirmed the forward did not sustain any injury.
