NPFL: Warri Wolves handed huge fine for security breach

Warri Wolves have been sanctioned by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for failing to meet security standards during their recent fixture against Enugu Rangers, Afrosport reports.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the Delta State Polytechnic Stadium in Ozoro, where inadequate security arrangements led to a delayed kick-off for the 4 p.m. match.

In response, the NPFL has imposed a fine of N1 million on the club for not providing “prompt, adequate, and effective security” as required by league regulations.

Additionally, Warri Wolves have been instructed to develop a comprehensive matchday security plan and submit it to the NPFL within seven days. The club also has 48 hours to lodge an appeal against the disciplinary action.

Wolves began the season in fine form, securing back-to-back victories — a 1-0 win over Katsina United in their opener, followed by Sunday’s triumph against Rangers.

They travel to face reigning champions Remo Stars in Ikenne this weekend, before returning home to host Kwara United on Sunday, 14 September.
