NPFL: Shooting Stars upset Pillars in Kano, edge closer to continental spot

Alex Aghaowa’s first-half goal earned Shooting Stars a 1-0 win away at Southwest rivals, Sunshine Stars in Ikenne in a matchday 16 encounter in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Afrosport reports.

The defender dashed forward and made his presence count upfront by slotting the ball past the Sunshine Stars goalkeeper after a brilliant team move in the 28th minute.

Shooting Stars goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal kept his side in the game with a point-blank save just before the half-time whistle to deny Sodiq Ibrahim.

The Goalkeeper did even more in the second half to ensure the Oluyole Warriors would garner all three points, and also pick their first away win of the season.

The Victory takes Shooting to fifth on the log on 24 points, while Sunshine Stars are 16th with 17 points.

In the other game on Saturday, Qamar Adegoke’s 12th minute goal propelled Nasarawa United to a 1-0 win at the expense of Lobi Stars at the Lafia Township stadium.

The Solid Miners are now 14th on the log, while struggling Lobi Stars are 17th.
