Gbenga Ogunbote has officially announced his departure from Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), marking the end of his latest tenure with the Ibadan-based side, Afrosport reports.
His exit comes in the wake of a major shake-up initiated by the Oyo State Government, which recently appointed a new management team to oversee the affairs of the club.
In a message shared on social media, Ogunbote expressed gratitude to fans, players, technical crew, and support staff for their unwavering support during his time at the club.
“My time with @ShootingSc has officially come to an end. I want to thank the fans, my players, technical crew, backroom staff, and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. Your love never went unnoticed,” he wrote.
Ogunbote’s departure follows a disappointing 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign in which 3SC finished in 8th place, a result that fell short of expectations despite a promising start to the season. The team concluded the league with 15 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses from 38 matches.
This marks the end of Ogunbote’s third stint with the Oluyole Warriors since his return to the club in August 2022. His exit is part of a broader restructuring effort that also saw the dismissal of General Manager and club legend Dimeji Lawal, along with the entire coaching crew.
Just weeks ago, club officials had dismissed rumors linking Ogunbote with a move to Kano Pillars, insisting he would see out his contract. However, internal developments and the new direction set by the incoming management have now paved the way for a fresh start.
Shooting Stars are expected to unveil a new technical team ahead of the 2025-26 NPFL season, which kicks off on August 22. The club recently participated in the Eko International Cup as part of its pre-season build-up.
