Nigeria beat New Zealand to record historic win at ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has unveiled a 14-player squad to represent the nation at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, a key step on the road to the global tournament, Afrosport reports.

Agboya Peculiar will captain the side, leading a blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young talents — a reflection of the Federation’s commitment to developing and strengthening women’s cricket in Nigeria.

The squad is packed with balance and versatility. All-rounder Lucky Piety, along with consistent performers such as Victory Igbinedion, Salome Sunday, and Kehinde Amusa, are expected to play pivotal roles in Nigeria’s push for qualification.

Speaking on the announcement, NCF President Dr Uyi Akpata said: “This squad represents the future of women’s cricket in Nigeria. Their talent and resilience reflect our development strategy, and we are optimistic about their chances at the Qualifier.”

The Female Yellow Greens will look to build on their recent progress. They open their campaign on 31 August against Sierra Leone, face Namibia on 1 September, and round off their group fixtures against Zimbabwe on 3 September — three crucial matches that could define their qualification hopes.

With Africa’s best sides set to compete, Nigeria are determined to make a strong impression and underline their credentials on the continental stage.
