Nick Kyrgios to miss Wimbledon due to injury setback

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios will miss Wimbledon this year, hitting a stumbling block in his anticipated return, Afrosport reports.

Kyrgios has suffered a “small setback” in his return to fitness and will miss the remainder of the “grass season”.

The 30-year-old, who has had to deal with numerous injuries over the past two years due to a recurring wrist injury that required surgery, lost to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in 2022.

He won his first singles match since 2022 at the Miami Open in March before a knee injury forced him out of the French Open, where he was scheduled to compete in the men’s doubles alongside fellow countryman Jordan Thompson.

The Australian broke the news of his setback on social media on Tuesday, with an apology to his fans.

“I’ve hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately [I] won’t make it back for grass season this year,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I know how much you’ve been looking forward to seeing me out there and I’m genuinely sorry to disappoint.

“This is just a bump in the road though and I’m already working hard to get back stronger than ever. Thank you for all your continued support – it means everything to me. See you soon!”

The French Open is currently ongoing, and Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year, will begin on 30 June.
