NFF pulls plug on November friendlies as focus shifts to World Cup play-offs

Super Eagles to face Ghana, Jamaica in invitational tournament

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly cancelled the Super Eagles’ proposed international friendlies next month, Afrosport reports

The Super Eagles were initially set to face Venezuela on 14 November and Colombia on 18 November, in the United States. However, but matches are expected to be called off.

Reports claim the decision was taken during a closed-door meeting at the NFF headquarters in Abuja, following Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Play-off in Morocco.

The federation opted to prioritise the playoffs, as the dates for the friendly matches would clash with the knockout fixtures.

According to reports, a clause in the friendly match agreements also allowed for cancellation if Nigeria advanced to the World Cup Play-off.

The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to the play-off semi-final against Gabon on 13 November, with the final scheduled for 16 November.
