Newcastle boss Howe confirms Wissa ruled out until mid-October

Strand Larsen signs contract extension with Wolves until 2030

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Yoane Wissa will remain sidelined until mid-October, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old was a transfer deadline day signing from Brentford but picked up a knee injury while on international duty with DR Congo in the 2026 FIFA Cup qualifiers.

Howe is now expecting Wissa to be back for the Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion after the October international break.

“Everyone wanted Yoane to be fit. There’s nothing personally I would have done differently. We did everything we did as a football club to try to look after Yoane,” he said.

“But it’s like with any footballer when they go away on international duty, you’re not in control of the minutes they play, and unfortunately, he gets injured and now we just have to deal the best we can with that situation.

“We think he’ll be out until after the next international break. He’s sort of got a race on to be fit for that Brighton game [18 October]. Hopefully, he can make it and then, of course, he’ll be such an important player for us.”

Newcastle lost 2-1 at home to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday and will face Howe’s former club, Bournemouth, on Sunday.
