Women’s Afrobasket 2023: D’Tigress begin title defence with win over DR Congo

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) on Wednesday unveiled the final roster for the senior women’s national team, D’Tigress, ahead of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Afrosport reports.

Head coach Rena Wakama has trimmed down the preliminary 20-player squad to 12. The final roster is headlined by familiar figures like captain Amy Okonkwo, Promise Amukamara, Ezinne Kalu and Murjanatu Musa.

The D’Tigress, six-time Afrobasket winners, are looking to win their fifth straight title, having emerged victorious in their last four outings in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023.

Also included in the squad are Sarah Ogoke, Victoria Macaulay, Elizabeth Balogun, Blessing Ejiofor, Ifunaya Okoro, Vera Ojenuwa, Nicole Enabosi, and Palla Kunayi.

The 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket will tip-off on 26 July and the final is set for 3 August, with all the games to be played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.

The D’Tigress, who defeated record winners Senegal in three of the last four finals, will face Mozambique and Rwanda in Group D.
