Victor Wembanyama put on a show in Dallas on Wednesday night, scoring 40 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs crushed the Mavericks 125–92, Afrosport reports.
The Frenchman set a new Spurs record for most points in a season opener, leading all scorers at the American Airlines Center. He went 15-for-21 from the field and converted nine of 11 free throws, as well as recording a game-high three blocks in another superb performance.

The 7-foot-5 phenom featured in the regular season for the first time since suffering deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder, a condition that required surgery and ended his sophomore season abruptly in February.
Reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle added 22 points for the Spurs, while Dylan Harper, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, chipped in with 15 off the bench to secure a dominant win for San Antonio in their Western Conference matchup.
Wembanyama’s spectacular performance, however, spoiled the NBA debut of top draft pick Cooper Flagg. The 18-year-old became the second-youngest player to start in his first NBA game — just two days behind LeBron James.

The former Duke star finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds after a slow start, waiting until the second half to score his first points.
Anthony Davis managed a team-high 22 points and 13 rebounds double-double for Dallas, as they continue to await the return of Kyrie Irving, still sidelined by ACL surgery.
