Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee next week, Afrosport reports.
Embiid was ruled out of the season in February, and the proposed surgery follows the Sixers’ plan to get the Cameroon-born star ready for the next season.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, revealed that additional information on Embiid will be provided after the knee surgery.
The 2022-23 league Most Valuable Player has endured an injury-riddled career, which would have forced him to miss almost 50% of his career games at the end of the current season. He has played in 452 of 883 regular season games.
Embiid, who played 39 games last season due to a torn meniscus in his left knee, has featured in just 19 games this campaign, recording averages of 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
The 31-year-old, a seven-time All-Star, has made five All-NBA Team selections and is a two-time scoring champion.
The Sixers entered this season as one of the contenders for the NBA title following the acquisition of Paul George in the offseason. They, however, have been eliminated from playoff contention and sit 13th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 23-53 record.
