NBA: Nigeria’s Achiuwa returns to Miami on one-year deal

Free agent forward Precious Achiuwa is heading back to South Beach after agreeing a one-year deal with the Miami Heat, Afrosport reports.

The move marks a reunion for the Nigerian, who was Miami’s 20th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The 26-year-old returns after solid spells with the Toronto Raptors – where he was part of the 2021 trade that sent Kyle Lowry to Miami – and New York Knicks.

The Heat have been searching for depth in the frontcourt to ease the load on All-Star centre Bam Adebayo, and Achiuwa could prove a valuable option.

The Port Harcourt-native averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 52 games for the Knicks last season, shooting over 50% from the floor. He has featured in 320 career games so far, averaging 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
