NBA: Magic’s Moritz Wagner to undergo season-ending knee surgery after ACL tear

The Orlando Magic have been dealt another huge injury blow as center Moritz Wagner has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, Afrosport reports.

Wagner has reportedly suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee and will require surgery, bringing an end to his 2024-25 season.

The 27-year-old sustained the injury late in the first quarter of the Magic’s 121-114 rallying home win against the Miami Heat on Saturday night.

Wagner, however, underwent an MRI scan on Sunday, and Orlando confirmed the center has “sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament.”

Wagner has been integral for the Magic this season following long-term injuries to their two top scorers—Paolo Banchero and Mo’s brother, Franz Wagner—who are both out with torn obliques.

He has played in all of Orlando’s 30 games this season, starting only one, with averages of 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 18.8 minutes per game this campaign, while shooting 56.2% from the floor.

Moritz Wagner currently ranks second in the NBA in points scored as a substitute (372) and 15th in field goal percentage. He finished in double figures in 23 games, including a career-high 32 points in a loss against the New York Knicks on 15 December.
