NBA: LeBron James, Donovan Mitchell named Players of the Week for Week 15

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell have been named the NBA Players of the Week for Week 15 of the 2024-25 season, Afrosport reports.

James wins a league-record 69th weekly award and has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the eighth time in his illustrious 22-year NBA career.

The 40-year-old led Los Angeles to a 3-1 week, averaging 27.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 10.0 assists per game in the week under review covering 20 January – 2 February.

The 21-time All-Star helped the Lakers to victories over the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and New York Knicks. Across 44 games this season, James is averaging 24.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 9.1 assists.

James fended off competition from Deandre Ayton (Trail Blazers), Devin Booker (Suns), Anthony Edwards (Timberwolves), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Grizzlies), and Ivica Zubac (Clippers) to win the award.

Mitchell, however, led the league-leading Cavaliers to a 4-0 record in the week to win the weekly award for the eighth time in his career and the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor for the fifth time.

He wins the award for the second time this season and becomes the second player in franchise history to win the award five or more times, behind LeBron James, who won it 42 times during his time in Cleveland.

The 25-year-old averaged 22.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, shooting 53.3% from the field as they defeated the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and Dallas Mavericks. He is currently averaging 23.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 45% from the floor across 47 games this season.

Mitchell overcame Bam Adebayo (Heat), Cade Cunningham (Pistons), Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam (Pacers), Tyrese Maxey (76ers), and Jayson Tatum (Celtics) to claim the accolade.
