NBA: LaVine, Brunson named NBA Players of the Week for Week 19

Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine and New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson have been named the NBA Players of the Week for Week 19 of the 2024-25 season, Afrosport reports.

LaVine has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his 11-year NBA career. The 29-year-old led Sacramento to a 3-0 week, averaging 28.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 62.3% from the field and 63.6% from 3-point range in the week under review covering 24 February – 2 March.

LaVine helped the Kings to victories over the Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets. Across 10 games for Sacramento this season, he is averaging 22.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.

The former Chicago Bulls star fended off competition from Stephen Curry (Warriors), Luka Doncic and LeBron James (Lakers), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams (OKC), and Shaedon Sharpe (Trail Blazers).

Brunson, meanwhile, wins the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honour for the second time this season and the seventh time in three seasons with the Knicks, who he led to a 3-0 record in the week.

The two-time NBA All-Star averaged 29.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists as they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat

He is currently averaging 26.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game while shooting 49% from the floor across 59 games this season.

Brunson held off the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum (Celtics), Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam (Pacers), De’Andre Hunter (Hawks) to win the weekly award.
