NBA: Lakers to honour late Jerry West with commemorative jersey band

17-time NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, will honour former player and Hall of Famer Jerry West throughout the incoming 2024-25 season.

The Western Conference team, in an attempt to recognise the impact West made on the franchise, will wear a commemorative No. 44 band on the left shoulder of their jersey this season.

A one-club man whose career with the Lakers spanned 30 years as a player and an executive, played in nine NBA Finals, winning one title with the Lakers in 1972.

West, whose silhouette is the inspiration behind the NBA logo, will have his number worn by the Lakers in all their 82 regular season games.

The Lakers will open the 2024-25 season on Tuesday, October 22, when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Crypto.com Arena.
