Kevin Durant has signed a two-year, $90 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets, which includes a player option for the 2027–28 season, Afrosport reports.
The Rockets confirmed the extension in a statement on Sunday, but did not release contract details.
Durant was eligible for a maximum two-year deal worth $120m but reportedly agreed to take around $30m less to give the Rockets more flexibility in building a competitive roster.

The 37-year-old now holds the record for the highest career earnings in NBA history, with $598.2 million in total salaries — surpassing LeBron James on $583.9 million. Durant will earn $54.7 million this season and now has three years and $144.7 million remaining on his deal.
Durant joined Houston in July as part of a record-breaking seven-team trade that sent several players, including Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, to the Phoenix Suns. His arrival has transformed the Rockets into genuine NBA title contenders, alongside young talents Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson.
A 15-time All-Star and two-time Finals MVP, he remains one of the league’s elite scorers. Last season, he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 62 games, shooting over 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range for a third consecutive season — the longest such streak in NBA history.
Durant dropped 20 points in his first game for Houston on 8 October, a pre-season win over the Utah Jazz.
The Rockets open their 2025-26 season on Friday, 24 October at home against the Detroit Pistons.
