No Chicago Bulls player will ever wear the No. 1 jersey again, the franchise confirmed on Thursday.
The Bulls announced that they will retire Derrick Rose’s jersey on 24 January 2026, with a special post-game ceremony at the United Center following their clash with the Boston Celtics.
Rose’s No. 1 becomes the fifth jersey to be immortalised by Chicago, joining Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23) and Scottie Pippen (33).

Drafted first overall in 2008, Rose spent eight seasons with his hometown team, winning Rookie of the Year in 2009 before making history as the youngest player ever to be named NBA Most Valuable Player in 2011 — a record he still holds.
The Chicago native powered the Bulls to a league-best 62-20 record in the 2010-11 season and guided them to the Eastern Conference Finals — their best postseason run since Jordan’s retirement in 1998 — before falling to the Miami Heat in five games.
A three-time All-Star, Rose featured in 406 regular-season games for the Bulls, averaging 19.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
Across a 15-year career, the guard also suited up for the New York Knicks (twice), Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies. Despite battling persistent injuries, he appeared in 723 career games before officially retiring ahead of the 2024-25 season.
