NBA: Barnes, Jackson Jr named Players of the Week for Week 14

Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes and Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. have been named the NBA Players of the Week for Week 14 of the 2024-25 season, Afrosport reports.

Barnes has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for just the first time since he was drafted fourth overall by Toronto in 2021. He is now the 12th player in franchise history and the first Raptor since Pascal Siakam in December 2022 to get the honour.

The 23-year-old led Toronto to a 3-0 week, averaging 22.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game in the week under review covering 20-26 January.

He helped the Raptors to victories over the Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks (twice). Across 32 games this season, the one-time All-Star is averaging 20.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists.

Barnes fended off Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard (Bucks), Jalen Brunson (Knicks), Cade Cunningham (Pistons), Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers), Tyrese Maxey (76ers), and Jayson Tatum (Celtics) to win the award.

Jackson Jr., however, led Memphis to a 4-0 record in the week under review to win the Western Conference Player of the Week award for the first time in his NBA career.

The 25-year-old averaged 25.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 31.2 minutes per game across four games as the Grizzlies recorded wins over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Pelicans, and Utah Jazz.

The former fourth overall pick overcame Anthony Davis and LeBron James (Lakers), Anthony Edwards (Timberwolves), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC), James Harden and Norman Powell (Clippers), Anfernee Simons (Portland), and Amen Thompson (Rockets) to claim the accolade.

Jackson Jr. is currently averaging 22.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 50% from the floor across 44 games this season.
