New MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has ended his season early after suffering a collarbone injury at the Indonesian Grand Prix earlier this month, Afrosport reports.
Just a week after sealing his seventh title at the Japanese Grand Prix, the Spaniard collided with Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap in Indonesia, leaving him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
Marquez, 32, had been expected to return for the final two rounds in Portugal and Valencia. However, Ducati said he will spend four weeks with his arm immobilised before beginning rehabilitation, ruling him out for the rest of the year.
“Analysing the entire situation, we believe that the most appropriate, clever and consistent course of action is to respect the biological timing of the injury, even if that means I will no longer be able to race this season,” Marquez said.
“We know that a difficult winter awaits us, with a lot of work, to recover my muscles to 100% and be ready for 2026. This must not overshadow or make us forget the great goal we achieved this year: becoming world champions again, and soon we will all celebrate it together.”
Marquez was replaced at Sunday’s Australian GP in Phillip Island by Ducati’s test rider Michele Pirro, though the team has yet to confirm who will ride in the final two races.
Despite missing the remaining rounds, Marquez (545) holds a commanding 166-point lead over his brother Alex of Gresini Racing, with Bezzecchi third, 97 points further back. He finishes the season with a stellar dominance, claiming 14 sprint wins and 11 Grand Prix victories.
The 2025 season concludes on 16 November in Valencia, where Ducati also confirmed Márquez will miss the post-season test in Cheste.
