Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Afrosport reports.
The 37-year-old Spaniard joined Inter Miami in 2023 after 15 successful years that saw him play 722 times, scoring 18 goals, providing 46 assists and winning 32 titles, including nine La Liga and three UEFA Champions League.
At Inter Miami, he has forged a strong partnership with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, featuring 105 times to date, scoring once, providing 16 assists, winning the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters Shield.
“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,” Busquets said in a video posted on his Instagram account.
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”
Busquets earned 143 caps for the Spain national team between 2009 and 2022 and was part of the squad that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2012 Euro championship in Poland and Ukraine.
