Man Utd step up Mbeumo chase with improved offer to Brentford

Bassong raises concern about potential Mbeumo transfer to Man United

Manchester United on Thursday intensified their pursuit of Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo, with an improved offer to Brentford, Afrosport reports.

The Red Devils have had their eyes on the 26-year-old since the transfer window opened in June, and talks between the two clubs have been ongoing ever since. Despite interest from elsewhere, Mbeumo has made it clear to Brentford that he sees his future at Old Trafford.

United’s first two bids were knocked back by the Bees, who rate the player highly. But the Manchester giants have now returned with an improved offer believed to be around £70 million, including add-ons.

Ruben Amorim’s side are now waiting on Brentford’s response, with reports suggesting the new bid could finally seal the deal—especially as the London side have already seen key figures like manager Thomas Frank and midfielder Christian Norgaard depart this summer.

Mbeumo joined Brentford back in August 2019 from French side Troyes. He played a crucial role in their rise to the Premier League in the 2020–21 season.

The left-footed forward caught the eye last season in the Premier League, banging in 20 goals and providing seven assists in 38 matches to help Brentford finish 10th.

Born in France, he chose to represent Cameroon and made his international debut in September 2022. He has since scored six goals in 22 matches for the Indomitable Lions and represented Cameroon at both the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

If a deal were to be agreed between United and Brentford, Mbeumo would become the club’s third summer signing, joining Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
