Madrid to host 2027 Champions League final, Warsaw gets women’s showpiece

Madrid has been confirmed as the host city for the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, while the women’s final will be played in Warsaw, Afrosport reports.

Atlético Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano will stage the men’s showpiece event for the 2026-27 season, beating out competition from the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The 70,000-capacity ground steps in for Milan’s iconic San Siro, which was originally selected as the venue. However, UEFA stripped Milan of its hosting duties in September 2024 due to concerns over whether their proposed reconstruction work would be completed in time.

UEFA reopened the bidding process after Milan’s removal, with Madrid and Baku the only candidates. The final decision was made at an Executive Committee meeting in Tirana, Albania, on Thursday.

The match, which UEFA said will take place on Saturday, 5 June 2027, will be the second Champions League final held at the Estadio Metropolitano. It previously hosted the 2019 final, when Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0.

It marks the sixth time the Champions League final will be played in Madrid, with Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu having hosted four times previously (1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010).

However, the 2027 Women’s Champions League final will take place at Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland.

Meanwhile, the 2026 men’s final will be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, while the women’s edition will be hosted at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway.

UEFA also announced that the 2026 UEFA Super Cup will be held at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria.
