Lorenzo Lucca joins Napoli on loan from Udinese as Osimhen future lingers

Lorenzo Lucca has joined reigning Serie A champions Napoli on loan from Udinese for the upcoming 2025-26 season while the future of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen continues to linger, Afrosport reports.

The Partenopei have an option to buy the 24-year-old Italian forward for a fee of €35 million including add-ons at the end of the loan deal.

Lucca scored 12 goals in 33 Serie A games as Udinese finished in 12th place last term, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

He was previously on loan with the Little Zebras from Serie B club Pisa during the 2023-24 season before his move was made permanent last summer.

Overall, Lucca, who has been capped five times for the Italy national team, has scored 23 goals in 75 outings for Udinese.

His arrival has brought further uncertainty to where Osimhen’s future will be for the new season.

The 2023 African Player of the Year currently has one year left on his Napoli contract and has once again been left out of Antonio Conte’s team for pre-season.

Osimhen has a reported release clause of €75 million and has not seen any club match the valuation aside Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal whom the player rejected.

The 26-year-old seemingly favours a move back to Galatasaray where he shone last season on loan, scoring a record 37 goals in 41 competitive games, including 26 goals in the Turkish Super Lig which saw him win the top scorer award.

A permanent agreement between his parent club and the Istanbul giants is however distant at the moment.
