Liverpool and Newcastle United have reached an agreement over the transfer of Alexander Isak, with the Sweden international set to join the Reds in a British record deal worth £125 million, Afrosport reports.
Both clubs are understood to have finalised terms on Sunday, with Isak expected to undergo his medical on Merseyside ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
The 25-year-old had already agreed personal terms with Liverpool earlier in the window and will sign a six-year contract that runs until 2031 — concluding what has been the most high-profile transfer saga of the summer.
Liverpool’s offer for the striker surpasses the previous British transfer record set in 2023, when Chelsea paid £115 million to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. It also marks the second time this summer the Reds have broken their own record, following the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £116m.
Isak has made no secret of his desire to join Liverpool throughout the summer, though Newcastle were initially reluctant to sell. The Magpies turned down a £110m offer from the Reds earlier in August, reportedly holding out for their £150m valuation.
The former Real Sociedad forward missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia and has been away from the team since their return. He recently criticised the club for “broken promises”, stating that his relationship with them “cannot continue”.
Newcastle’s stance appeared to soften following the arrival of German striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart in a club-record £69 million move — paving the way for Isak’s departure.
Barring any last-minute issues, Isak will become Liverpool’s ninth signing of the summer, joining Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, and Milos Kerkez, among others.
The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table with nine points from three matches, following their 1–0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.
