Liverpool coach Slot backs Salah to win African Player of the Year award

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has backed Mohamed Salah to win the 2025 CAF African Player of the Year award, Afrosport reports.

The 33-year-old Egyptian superstar has been nominated for the prestigious award alongside Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Gabon’s Denis Bouanga, Cameroon’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Oussama Lamlioui and Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye

Salah previously won the award in 2017 and 2018 and Slot stated he would cost his vote for the former Chelsea player to win it again.

“I completely agree with you that (Achraf) Hakimi had a great season, but I don’t think, but people who are in the room know this better than me was is there ever been a player that scored so many goals and assists in the Premier League than Mo (Salah) did?,” the Dutch tactician said.

“So that’s probably more than special. But yeah, it’s up to other people to decide who should win. But if you want to have my vote, I would vote on Mo Salah. But yeah, Africa has a lot of good players where Hakimi and Mo are two of them and (Victor) Osimhen, like you just said as well.”

Salah finished as top scorer last season in the Premier League with 29 goals while providing 18 assists, the most of any player, as Liverpool lifted a record-equalling 20th title.
