Lind, Hashimoto reign supreme at 2025 WTT Contender Lagos
Denmark’s Anders Lind and Japan star Honota Hashimoto have clinched the men’s and women’s singles crowns at the 2025 WTT Contender Lagos on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
Lind turned last year’s disappointment into triumph by capturing the men’s singles title, thrilling fans inside the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The 26-year-old Dane was in inspired form against Tomislav Pucar in the final. He delivered a stellar performance to defeat the Croatian 4-1, recording scores of 11-4, 13-11, 10-12, 13-11, and 11-7.
In the women’s singles final, an upset emerged as Hashimoto dethroned defending champion Sreeja Akula of India. The 27-year-old Japanese heavy-hitter cruised to a dominant 4-1 win over Akula, with scores of 11-7, 11-3, 11-4, 9-11, and 13-11.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Kim Nayeong and Ryu Hanna were crowned champions in the women’s doubles, edging the Egyptian pair of Hana Goda and Dina Meshref 3-2 in a gripping final.
India retained their men’s doubles title with a new pairing, as Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Akash Pal swept past France’s Leo De Nodrest and Jules Rolland 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-9) in a commanding display.
