Kompany: Bayern sign Belgian to new long-term deal until 2029

Bayern Munich have handed Vincent Kompany a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 2029, Afrosport reports.

The 39-year-old joined the German champions in May 2024, with his original deal set to expire in the summer of 2027. But the Bavarians have tied the Belgian down to a long-term deal, rewarding him for his success so far.

Kompany guided Bayern to the Bundesliga title in his first season in charge and led them to German Super Cup triumph at the start of the ongoing campaign.

Since his arrival at Allianz Arena, the former Manchester City captain has won 49 of his 67 matches across all competitions.

“I’m grateful, honoured, and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one,” he said.

“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success.”

Club president Herbert Hainer described the extension as a show of confidence and a sign of continuity at the club.

He said: “The contract extension with Vincent Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after the great job he’s done up to now, as well as a clear sign for continuity and stability at Bayern,”

“Vincent is held in high regard by the players, the club management and the fans. We’re happy about the early extension of our cooperation.”

Bayern have made a historic start to the 2025–26 season, winning all 10 of their competitive matches across the Bundesliga and Champions League, and currently sit five points clear at the top of the league table.

Kompany, who moved to Munich from Burnley, led the Clarets to the Championship title in 2023 before their relegation from the Premier League in the following season.

He also managed Belgian side Anderlecht, doubling as a player-coach following a trophy-laden playing career with City. He featured in 360 games for the English club, winning 12 titles, including four Premier League crowns.

Kompany will next lead Bayern out against Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, before facing Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga at the weekend.
